A journey into wellness
Our founder, Luke Geddie, was raised by a mother dedicated to healthy living. When his younger brother became extremely ill as a teenager, his mother began looking for alternatives to traditional medicine, which ultimately resolved his condition. Because of his own family's journey into wellness, a chemical-free lifestyle became ingrained into Luke’s life.
An adventurous opportunity
Seeking adventure, the two brothers traveled to Southeast Asia in 2012. They made their way across the continent, working as they went — from consulting in Thailand to volunteering at orphanages in southern India. The highlight of their journey was Vietnam. They admired the country's pristine villages and lush jungles, but were especially captivated by the hard working, family-oriented Vietnamese people.
After their trip, Luke chose to remain in Vietnam, working with locals through an import-export company that he founded. Luke was introduced to an innovative way to produce coconut oil without heat, chemicals or solvents. The coconut has always been an extremely versatile and indispensable food for people in the Tropics, as it is rich in vitamins, minerals, electrolytes and valuable lauric acid (also found in mother’s milk).
A company is born
On one of his trips home, Luke brought this revolutionary coconut oil to his family and friends who confirmed that this oil was very different from anything else they had ever tried. After adding a little each day to their diets and skin care routines, everyone expressed positive results, such as an increase in energy or improvement in their skin or waistline. Everyone loved its natural taste and moisturizing effect.
Convinced that this coconut oil was special, Luke patented their unique process and, in his family’s living room, launched Skinny in September 2013. With only ten jars of coconut oil and a big dream of changing the world, Skinny began advancing a chemical-free movement that offers people the opportunity to take charge of their own health, enabling them to contribute more fully to their families and communities.
