Try essential oils for eczema and psoriasis relief

You likely know by now that essential oils are not only used in aromatherapy; they can also be ingested or absorbed through the skin. And, when it comes to skin care or healing cuts, scrapes, or wounds, topical application is the route you need to take.

Essential oils for eczema

Did you know that eczema affects more than 30 million Americans, making it one of the most common skin conditions? The name of the condition itself comes from a Greek word which means “to boil over”, which describes the red, itchy, and often inflamed patches that occur on the skin during a flare-up.

Most commonly, babies and children develop eczema on their faces, but eczema can occur anywhere on the body, with a range of symptoms. In many cases, eczema goes away with age, though some children continue to experience eczema through adulthood. It’s also not uncommon for adults to develop eczema, even if they never had it during childhood.

Because eczema is so common and widespread, it’s not surprising that people look for topical relief. Below, find a list of essential oils that are often used to treat the symptoms of eczema:

  • Lavender oil
  • Eucalyptus oil
  • Jojoba oil
  • Sunflower oil
  • Tea tree oil
  • Calendula oil

Essential oils for psoriasis

Another common skin condition that affects Americans is psoriasis. It’s so common, in fact, that the American Academy of Dermatology puts the number of people affected by it at about 7.5 million. Those who suffer from it know that it is actually caused by an autoimmune condition that causes skin cells to rapidly build up. The buildup gives the skin’s surface a scaly appearance that is often surrounded by redness and inflammation; the psoriatic scales themselves appear to be whitish-silver and develop into thick patches that sometimes crack and bleed.

When looking for relief from the symptoms of psoriasis, many people have found the following essential oils to be beneficial:

  • Tea tree oil
  • Castor oil
  • Lavender oil
  • Geranium oil
  • Peppermint oil
  • Argan oil
  • Black seed oil

Skinny & Co. Coconut Oil for eczema and psoriasis

Coconut oil is not an essential oil, but it does have anti-inflammatory properties that can be used to help ease pain and repair skin associated with issues such as eczema and psoriasis. At the same time, it also helps moisturize the skin and alleviate dryness commonly associated with eczema and psoriasis.
