Remember that new year resolution to get fit by summer? Well, summer is almost here, friends, and swimsuit season is upon us. If you find that exercising isn’t enough to get the results you desire, there are a few things that could be to blame.
In this blog, we’ll discuss a few of the problems that hinder your fitness goals.
You overindulge on food after working out
It’s OK to treat yourself to something sweet or fattening every so often, but don’t undo all the hard work you achieve working out by splurging on an extra slice of pizza or a dessert multiple times a week. Many people are unsure how many calories they burn in a workout, so don’t set yourself back by overindulging to reward yourself. Instead, choose a healthier treat, or limit your cheat meals throughout the week.
You don’t have enough variety in your workouts
Maybe you love to run, but cardio alone is not going to give your body the full workout it needs. Variety in training is key. For the best results, try rotating different forms of exercise (cardio, strength training, flexibility, etc.) throughout your weekly workout routines.
You’re not challenging yourself
If you’re lifting the same five-pound weights at the gym week after week, you are not challenging your body. To build more muscle and burn more calories, incrementally grab some heavier weights when you feel you’[re ready. If you can run a mile without breaking a sweat, consider running a little longer or on an incline to ensure you’re getting your heart rate up.
You don’t have accountability with your workout
If you have difficulty sticking with a long-term workout regime, try joining a group workout class or recruiting some friends to workout with you. Time flies when you are having fun, right? And, even better, friends don’t let friends bail out on workouts!
The key to a successful workout plan is to track your successes and challenge yourself. That includes both in the kitchen and in the gym. But, most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask for help from a nutritionist, trainer, or doctor, however.
